QUICK PLAYED: 13/06/2008
A quick run through of the rest of the titles out this week and what I think of them. Including a Fight Night wannabe, a classic reinvented and, SHOCK, a decent move from PC to console…
Don King Presents Prizefighter (360)
It’s what we needed, something to rival Fight Night for the title of Heavy Weight Champ. Unfortunatly, it’s looks rough, plays like something out of the stoneage and has fighters that hardly anyone recognises. Tries a few things different and has ‘classic matches’ (which are the same but in black and white) and it has Joe Calzaghe in it as well. Good for boxing fans, but I would wait until Facebreaker or Round 4 in 2009.
Okami (Wii) – Capcom
This isn’t much different than the PS2 version but with the ‘Mote it actually makes the painting parts make sense. You can’t help but feel that Okami was released 2 years too early. It won’t sell though, it dosn’t have mini-games for the Wiitards. It’s not for everyone, but, if you played the original, play it again, you might just enjoy it more.
Civilisation: Revolution (360/PS3) – 2K Games
Where 2K may have failed with boxing games, they should promoted the geezers who suggested a console version of the PC grafter Civilisation. When we heard about this, we moaned, when we played this, we jumped for joy. It has the good elements of the meglomaniac’s wet dream, but, they left out the annoying mechanics like pollution and global warming and it doesn’t take a year to complete. This was the surprise of the weekend for me. It sold out on the first day and I was asked for it all the time. Purists will combust if they even hold the box, but because it’s accessabilty and simplicity (for a Civ game), it makes Civ Rev a joy to play.
Soul Bubbles (NDS) – Eidos
Another awesome original title for the DS which no-one will play because you’re not looking after a furry animal. The concept is simply saving lost spirits by capturing them in bubbles and guiding them across the levels. The style is lovely and there is a sense of loss when the liitle spirits perrish. Critically acclaimed but that dosen’t mean that people will buy it. Give it a chance.
Other games out were Hanna Montana on Wii (Only as a Christmas Pressie to your little sister) Ecolis on DS (Another interesting DS title) and Lego Indiana Jones on PSP (Good fun, but this game only works with someone to play with.)
Note: I will be quicker doing this next week, I’m still planning the blog.
PLAYED isn’t a review as such: I don’t give a score, but, I give an honest opinion. I would say in writing what I would tell one of my customers. This dosen’t mean I what you to buy every game in my shop. If I don’t like it, I would say. If the customer wouldn’t like it, I would say. Because they would be back within 24 hours demanding a refund and, trust me, I wouldn’t want the hassle…
